Commissioners celebrated grand opening of $1.3 million in improvements at Newton Lake Park
On Tuesday, the Board of Commissioners celebrated the grand opening of a brand-new $1.3 million in improvements to several fishing piers at Newton Lake Park. The renowned park is a 103-acre greenspace bounded by Cuthbert Boulevard, and encompasses Collingswood, Haddon Township, and Oaklyn.
“When we invest in our parks and open spaces, we are investing in the quality of life of our residents,” said Commissioner Jeffrey Nash, liaison to the Parks Department. “Newton Lake is a treasured resource for our communities, and these improvements ensure that residents of all abilities can safely enjoy the water and the surrounding natural environment for years to come. We are proud to continue making thoughtful investments that strengthen our parks, protect our natural resources and create opportunities for residents to connect with the outdoors.”
The seven aging fishing piers throughout the park were demolished and replaced with new, ADA compliant concrete fishing piers, ensuring improved safety and full accessibility for all park users. In addition, associated path repairs and improvements were completed to provide accessible routes to each pier.
