Global take on agriculture news
Provided by AGPAccording to reports, Sharif left Pakistan earlier in the day as Islamabad continues its role in facilitating indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran in efforts to end the ongoing conflict.
The Pakistani delegation accompanying Sharif includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar along with several cabinet ministers and senior officials.
Reports stated that Sharif began the trip in Hangzhou, where he is expected to lead the Pakistan-China Business-to-Business Investment Conference focused on sectors including information technology, telecommunications, battery energy storage systems, and agriculture.
Later in the visit, the Pakistani premier is scheduled to travel to Beijing for meetings with senior Chinese leaders, including President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang.
According to reports, the visit carries added diplomatic significance as China has recently hosted several major world leaders while international efforts continue to seek an end to the conflict involving the US and Iran.
Reports also noted that both the US and Russian presidents met Xi in recent weeks while Pakistan maintained mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran.
Pakistan previously helped broker a ceasefire that took effect on April 8 following fighting that erupted after Israeli and US strikes on Tehran on Feb. 28. Reports stated that the conflict resulted in more than 3,300 deaths and displaced thousands within Iran.
During his stay in China, Sharif is also expected to attend activities commemorating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Islamabad and Beijing.
"The visit is expected to further deepen political trust, strengthen strategic coordination, expand practical cooperation and consolidate the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and China," the Foreign Ministry said in an earlier statement.
