China, Indonesia Sign New Cooperation Deals
These accords were finalized after a discussion between Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang and Indonesian Leader Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta, according to a Beijing-based news agency.
Alongside the main agreements, both countries signed several memoranda of understanding encompassing tourism, agricultural exports, herbal medicine, investment, strategic trade, and media cooperation.
Li Qiang is currently undertaking a three-day state visit to Indonesia, which is recognized as the largest economy in Southeast Asia. This marks the inaugural destination of his first overseas tour for the year.
Earlier in the visit, Premier Li engaged in talks with President Prabowo focused on boosting economic and trade partnerships, especially in light of the ongoing global trade tensions initiated by the United States and looming financial uncertainties.
As reported by the news agency, Li expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Indonesia in tackling shared risks and deepening partnerships across the "five pillars"—namely political cooperation, economic collaboration, cultural and interpersonal exchanges, maritime affairs, and security.
He also emphasized China’s commitment to aligning development blueprints with Indonesia and expanding robust collaboration under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.
President Prabowo, in response, commended the growing relationship with China, referring to it as "a pillar of peace and prosperity" in the Southeast Asian region.
He further affirmed Indonesia’s ongoing commitment to advancing the completion of the Code of Conduct talks aimed at de-escalating tensions and averting conflicts in the South China Sea.
